Simple changes make the biggest impact. The forest products industry is a leading producer and user of carbon-neutral, renewable biomass energy – generating 28.5 million megawatts annually, enough to power 2.7 million homes.
On average, 65 percent of the energy used to produce paper and wood products comes from renewable biomass energy. As an industry, we reduced our consumption of fossil fuels by 56 percent between 1972 and 2006. We achieved a remarkable 9.2 percent reduction in just two years between 2004 and 2006.
